How can my business benefit from Twitter?

Posted on May 16, 2009 by Tom Guard

Social Media Is Not About Shoving Your Business Down Throats.

Today, I saw a multiple tweets, with the same message coming from a follower of mine. I looked at the person’s profile at there were 42 updates in the past two months with the exact same message. The message was to go to their site.

The next thing I did was unfollow this person because they had nothing to offer other than repitition. I use Twitter because I like to read compelling content. If something sparks my attention, I’ll click the link in the tweet.

How can my business benefit from Twitter? Well, Twitter and social media in general is about sharing. Give advice, share an informative link and then show them Today’s specials on your menu.  Invite your followers to come to your business, your grand opening, or to try a new recipe made by your chef. Don’t just throw your link or your businesses address all over the place. Be informative have your potential customers interact with you.

On your take out menu, put a link to your social media sites. “Follow us on Twitter, Facebook or Myspace.”  These sites are free. So the ROI or return on investment has already been covered.

You’ll be able to maintain relationships with customers you already have and gain more customers in the process.  Blog consultingMaybe you’re from another generation and really don’t want to experiement with social networking. But guess what…your competition will put you out of business. If you don’t want to connect with your customers then your customers really don’t want to connect to your business.
